Having had the pleasure of catching Tatsu play on a few occasions, I’ve often been left dumbstruck at his selections and the sorta stuff he was pulling out his record bag, then uselessly trying to remember just exactly what it was for private investigations later – a natural fit for Tabi Tapes! The A-side is carefully dedicated to ‘mainly obscure synthesizer music from various countries’, joining the dots between various shades of European, Soviet, Israeli (!), and other nation’s home-brewed electronic concoctions with a keen ear for the strange, esoteric and outright bizarre whilst sequencing the lot like a PRO. The return leg on the B dives into ‘rare electronic library music from Europe’ (gulp) where Tatsu slips effortlessly between sub-aquatic ambient sound-scenes, to industrial atmospherics via upwardly mobile 80’s cosmic disco and ruthlessly catchy electro-boogie jams, giving each record the space it needs to work its magic.
