Second blow in as many weeks from Gothenburg’s confirmed holy Förlag För Fri Musik press, this time with scene lynchpin Dan Johansson under his more noise-focused Sewer Election alias. The scant accompanying press release mentions a mail collaboration during the pandemic with vocalist Charmaine Lee – a new name to me but her contributions here feel vital. Johansson’s brut, oppressive electronics drape heavy across the record like a thick fog, smouldering with seismic sub-rumble and airy tone float, whilst Lee’s vocal improv adds a touch of real intimacy. Special mentions to the queasy moments of detuned guitar play that evoke the mind-spiraling, loaded-gun-on-the-bedside-table paranoia of Jandek, and the billowing noise moments a’la Anne Gillis, Dilloway or Johansson’s earlier FFFM outing as Private Arms. It’d be forgiven to think you don’t need another one from this label right now, but you do.. (Mint / New – handmade covers – limited 1 per player!)
