Perfect music for solo drift by Flaer on Thea HD’s brand new Odda label.
Certain moments experienced alone stick in the mind. Squeezing through a gap in the fence to smoke at dawn on the edge of a reservoir. Pushing through an enormous patch of flowering gorse to find a hollow chamber at the centre. Walking through someone’s dripping suburban garden and maybe hearing a nightingale. Coming back to remember then you need music. Put the aux lead down, this not music to share while you worry if anyone else likes it. I mean music listened to alone and drifting, probably instrumental, definitely too precious for its own good. There’s a rich vein of this stuff running through 80s/90s/00s underground music. I’m thinking Virgina Astley, obviously, but also Deux Filles, Plinth, Sema, Vic Mars, Hood etc etc. Here’s some more. Flare’s LP on Thea HD’s new Odda label sits right in this zone. Church bells and birds, wistful cello and woody guitar, unidentifiable creaks and lonely piano are all present and correct.
