Left-of-centre, unconventional dub-funk explorations via controversial Kyoto group EP-4, produced by god-like studio eccentric Kaoru Sato known previously for that ’80 minimal synth epic ‘R-N-A Organisation’ on Vanity Records. It’s a unique amalgamation of so much – taking threads of post-punk attitude, searching Bill Laswell-esque bass strafes, awkward straight jacket robo-funk and odd mutant elements, fully re-rendered into it’s own free, carnival-like soundworld. There’re traces of Liquid Liquid in there, mixed with the more rapturous bells ‘n whistles moments of A Certain Ratio – but ultimately this lot are out on their own. Still fresh and impossible to ignore! (JP original copy – with OBI + Insert NM/NM).
