La Vida Es Un Mus sub-label Sealed Records pluck out this great little obscurio from Throbbing Gristle’s own Industrial Records label from the wonderfully misleading ‘Dorothy’. Definitely the straightest release in a often murky and uncompromising catalogue that pretty much lays down the blueprint for the Industrial genre as a whole – with the benefit of time and renewed context, this 7” from 1980 is probably the weirdest thing they ever did. Sugar-sweet, butter-wouldn’t-melt title track ‘I Confess’ is a catchy pop ditty written by Alex Ferguson, Max ‘Dorothy’ of Rema Rema and Genesis P-Orridge and is laced with a sort of perverse innocence, whilst ‘Softness’ on the flip is a squirming DIY disco nugget that’ll always be a total head-scratcher. Super interesting little 7” with added intrigue for anyone tracing the roots of Industrial Music, Psychic TV, TG, Chris & Cosey, etcccc.. (Mint / New – with booklet!!!!)
