Fully STUNNED by this dead-stock excavation executed by Portland’s uber-digger, Concentric Circles label boss and one time Tabi Tapes contributor Jed Bindeman – the sole 1988 private self-release from Boston’s Darline Victor. Discogs informs that Victor did a stint in the mid-late 80’s with US EBM / Industrial group Sleep Chamber before knocking out this self-titled release and then seemingly just packing it all in. It forges an irresistible mix of ridged / staccato drum programming and sullen yet FUNKY basslines with added shimmers of rhythm guitar and just the right amount of gothy / industrial undertones. The detached / canned drum machine immediately recalled A Produce’s ‘The Clearing’ LP, which came out in the same year – but there’s very little about this that sounds dated, whilst there’s some echos of Pink Industry in the early electro / proto-techno feel, albeit somewhat harsher. Mad, yet comforting to know, that stuff like this is still out there to be found.. only have a few! (NM/NM – with insert)
